CSD Progression Reminder [Spring 2021]

Dear sophomores,

With registration for Fall of 2021 starting on April 19th, now is a great time to take stock of your hard work in your CSD courses and to plan ahead. As a friendly reminder, the foundation courses - CSD207, CSD208 and CSD209 - require a letter grade of C or better to move on to the upper level CSD coursework. Remember these grades also will be important for the graduate school applications in your future.

Please take this opportunity to evaluate how you are doing in these courses.

If you are doing well, congratulations and keep up the hard work!

If you have any concerns about your current performance (such as one or more C grade across 207, 208, and 209), this is a good time to reflect on the goals for your undergraduate career. You are encouraged to communicate with your instructor(s) and advisor. If you decide that it would be beneficial to explore potential opportunities and major/career paths other than CSD that may provide a better platform for your strengths and interests to shine, there are many resources and services offered by University Career Center (https://www.jmu.edu/career/) that are meant to facilitate and support you in this endeavor.

Your faculty members in CSD are committed to facilitating your progress toward a successful undergraduate career that would provide a foundation for your career aspirations. Thus, for those of you who have found CSD to be your home, we are excited for you and encourage you to continue learning with a passion. If you have any questions or concerns about whether there may be other options out there, now is the perfect time to explore these and to set a new plan forward.

Remember that advisor office hours and peer advising hours are all posted on the CSD Advising Blog at http://jmucsdundergraduateadvising.blogspot.com/p/office-hours.html.

Hope you are doing well, and have a great rest of the semester!

Welcome, Dr. Timler!

With new students, new faculty, and a new Health and Behavioral Studies building, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is excited to kick off a new school year! The undergraduate peer advisors would like to introduce one of our newest faculty members, Dr. Geralyn Timler. At the undergraduate level, she is currently teaching CSD 300 Children’s Language and will be teaching a section of CSD 314 Phonological and Language Disorders in the spring. She is looking forward to the unique opportunity of collaborating with another child language researcher and professor, Dr. Pavelko, for CSD 314.
